Church Fellowship

We are a group of folk who meet on the second Wednesday in each month at 2.30pm. We start with a prayer then we usually have a speaker.

We have covered a large range of subjects and learn something new each time, and have our questions answered.

There is then time for a chat over a cup of tea.

If you would like to know more about our meetings or would like to pop down one week, please telephone either of our numbers and Betty will get in touch with you.

We are an active group and as you can see from our report for the Church AGM we have been very busy.

We enjoy our time of Fellowship and Friendship. We are 24 in number and most attend each meeting, we find pleasure in each other's company, and have listened to some stimulating speakers. Our year always begins with a Communion service in church, led by Vicar David.

Past speakers include: Margaret Holroyd who spoke of 'Peggy Pockets', leather purses on a cord, to be worn round the neck under clothing to conceal it for safety.

Mrs Hellawell came to see us twice and we journeyed with her to Mara in Africa and on a walk on the Kirklees Way, shown on slides.

April saw us watching beautiful slides of Alpine plants, this was given by Roy Senior.

May brought us Mrs Kagellis and Miss Liz Rogan and they spoke of the work of the Magistrates - A dedicated band of people.

Mrs. Armitage came in June and we were taught how to ice cakes, she gave a lovely demonstration and presented the finished cake to Mrs Mary Haigh for her 90th birthday, we also drank her health.

We were really alert in July when Mrs Gledhill came to speak about pensions, she answered questions and gave advice.

September brought Neville Sheard, and he shared with us about the Hospice and the wonderful care given to patients.

October saw us travel to France, with Hazel and Jeannette visiting beautiful gardens, including Monet's.

We had also been knitting, and collecting 'goodies' to fill shoeboxes. This was done in November when we filled them and covered them with Christmas paper, 28 in all. Elizabeth (one of our members) collected them, they were going to children in 3rd world countries organised by 'Samaritans Purse'. At the same time a lady called Rachel Taylor brought samples of knitting of tiny garments for premature babies and other needy folk, and since then the noise of knitting needles has been deafening!

As we have responded to this need we indulged ourselves in December, and with invited friends, enjoyed a Christmas lunch at Bradley Golf Club Restaurant. Almost at the end of December Mrs. Vera Stocks celebrated her 90th birthday - Well done!
